چکیده

Abstract Exposing Holstein dry cows to short-day (SD) photoperiod of 8 hours per day can improve milk production post-calving by 3.2 kg day, compared exposed long-day (LD) 16 during the same period. To date, no studies have evaluated effect altered period on in Jersey cows. Our objective was study LD and SD both breeds. (n=33) dried off 60 days prior their due date were either (n=9 Holstein, n=8 Jersey) or (n=8 at 18.3 °C until calving. After calving, returned ambient data collected for 15 weeks. Lactation number, replicate, feed intake treatment recorded. Data analyzed using PROC MIXED SAS 9.4. Overall average differed breed (P< 0.01), with Holsteins producing more (72.9 ± 6.2 kgs) than Jerseys (66.1 7.3 kgs). Treatment (P=0.02) (71.0 6.9 (68.1 6.7 interaction significantly differed. Long-day produced 73.9 kgs which not different (P >0.10) from (72.1 6.4 Neither nor (P=0.16, P=0.60) 70.0 7.4 kgs. averaged least 62.3 all other groups 0.01). This suggests Jerseys’ responds similarly previous reported data. Factors causing unexpected could be elevated temperature-humidity index values post-calving, despite industry standard heat abatement.

Relationships Among Herd Life, Milk Production, and Calving Interval

Whether to select for longer life in the herd or shorter calving interval depends on the genetic and phenotypic relationships among herd life, amount of milk in first lactation, and calving interval. Herd life and average calving intmwal are essentially phenotypically uncorrelated. The phenotypic and genetic correlations of herd life and milk in first lactation ranged from .19 to .25 and from ....

Analysis of milk production, age at first calving, calving interval and economic parameters in dairy cattle management

The objective of this study was to evaluate main indicators of milk production on total 60 commercial dairy herds from the Czech Republic during a 9-yr period (2006-2014). Breakeven points and sensitivity analysis were used and associations of age at first calving (AFC), milk yield (MY) and calving interval (CI) were analyzed. Lowest AFC≤749 d showed the highest fertility, the lowest death rate...

Calving processes and the dynamics of calving glaciers

Calving of icebergs is an important component of mass loss from the polar ice sheets and glaciers in many parts of the world. Calving rates can increase dramatically in response to increases in velocity and/or retreat of the glaciermargin, with important implications for sea level change. Despite their importance, calving and related dynamic processes are poorly represented in the current gener...

Calving day and age at first calving in Angus heifers.

Because of difficulties in data collection and analysis, in most breeds there have been limited ways to evaluate fertility in females on a between-herd basis. The objective of this study was to determine the heritabilities (direct and maternal) for CD (calving day) and AFC (age at first calving) in American Angus heifers and to evaluate the potential for using these traits in genetic improvemen...

Pre-Calving and Calving Management Practices in Dairy Herds with a History of High or Low Bovine Perinatal Mortality

Bovine perinatal mortality is an increasing problem in dairy industries internationally. The objective of this study was to determine the risk factors associated with high and low herd-level calf mortality. Thirty herds with a history of either high (case) or low (control) calf mortality were recruited. A herd-level questionnaire was used to gather information on management practices likely to ...
